If you intend to work full time toward a Ph.D. and supply application materials by February 1, you will be considered for fellowships.
These fellowships generally provide a stipend of $16,000 to $22,000 or more for twelve months plus health insurance (medical and dental) and tuition coverage with all fees remitted except for approximately $600 per semester.
These fellowships have tenures ranging from one to two years, after which you will be supported with a departmental teaching assistantship or research assistantship up to a total of six years, provided satisfactory academic progress towards the Ph.D. is made.

If you intend to work full time toward the Ph.D. and supply your application materials by March 1, you will be considered for graduate assistantships. Graduate assistantships include health insurance (medical and dental) and tuition coverage for all remittable fees.
If you receive an assistantship, you will be assigned by the department up to 20 hours per week of responsibilities during the fall and spring semesters as well as up to 10 hours per week during one of the summer sessions. These responsibilities often include assignments such as teaching, tutoring, grading, proctoring, and research.
Teaching assistant training and mentoring is provided.
