Eight School of Science Graduate Students Named to IUPUI's Elite 50

Monday, May 18, 2015

INDIANAPOLIS -- Eight School of Science graduate students were honored as an Elite 50, and one placed in the Premier 10, during the ceremony on April 15.

The Elite 50 program is modeled after IUPUI’s traditional Top 100 Outstanding Students Recognition Dinner, which honors the top undergraduate students on the campus. Honorees for the Elite 50 have demonstrated achievements outside of the classroom.  The nominees were scored in two categories:  accolades (achievements by the student that are primarily non-academic, including fellowships, internships and awards) and campus/community benefit (involvement in activities/organizations that have benefits others).

The eight School of Science honorees are:

  • Kelsey Bonfils, clinical psychology, M.S., Ph.D.
  • Lucia Carichino, mathematics, Ph.D.
  • Shannon Christy, clinical psychology, Ph.D
  • Kimberly Dreher,  clinical psychology, Ph.D.
  • Nicole Hollingshead, clinical psychology, M.S., Ph.D.
  • Lauren Luther, clinical psychology, M.S., Ph.D.
  • Akshayalakshmi Sridhar, biology, M.S., Ph.D
  • Austin Stanforth, applied earth sciences, Ph.D.

Austin Stanforth, a Ph.D. student in the Department of Earth Sciences, was named to the Premier 10 and top graduate student in the School of Science.

“Graduate students make important contributions to the research and teaching missions of the School of Science.  We’re thrilled that their efforts are being recognized by the campus, and that our students are so well represented in the Elite 50,” said David Skalnik, associate dean for research and graduate education for the School of Science.

In addition to naming the Elite 50 and Premier 10, the night culminated with the top award, the Dr. Charles R. Bantz Award for Excellence, going to School of Medicine student Janice Farlow.
