Physics alum wins Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching

Tuesday, September 01, 2015

INDIANAPOLIS -- PAEMST is the highest recognition that a K-12 mathematics or science teacher may receive for outstanding teaching in the United States. Only up to 108 teachers are recognized each year.

As a teacher at Avon High School and Avon Advanced Learning Center, Haiducu has spent the last 16 years teaching all levels of physics and mathematics.

Haiducu's passion for physics goes well beyond his classroom. Using grants and personal funds, he created the Power of Physics Project, which aims at increasing the exposure to and excitement about physics at pre-collegiate levels. Through commercials and shows staged at a variety of educational venues, the project’s objective is to increase Indiana-based students’ excitement and interest in physics and science.

Since 2012, Haiducu has also been involved as a presenter in the Advanced Placement Training and Incentive Program (AP-TIP) through the University of Notre Dame, which guides schools to student success in AP testing.

Haiducu holds a Bachelor of Science in physics and biophysics from the University of Bucharest, Romania, and a master's in physics and biophysics from Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI). He is a certified physics and mathematics teacher for grades 5-12.
