INDIANAPOLIS -- Brizendine, MS '93, was honored February 25 at the 2016 IUPUI Alumni Leaders' Dinner. The Hine Medal is a campus-wide award that recognizes significant contributions from an individual alumnus in support of the campus and its alumni programs.
He has served the School of Science and IUPUI in a selfless way, demonstrating to others what it means to be a proud IUPUI and School of Science alumnus.
"Mr. Brizendine is an extremely committed and engaged member of the IUPUI alumni community," said Dean Simon Rhodes. "He is an ardent advocate for our campus, the School of Science and our IUPUI initiatives."
Brizendine is a past president of the IUPUI Alumni Advisory Council, was vice president and past president of the IUPUI School of Science Alumni Association (which he has served since 2005), and was a member of the IUPUI Athletics Advisory Board from 2003-06. He attends virtually all school and campus functions, frequently volunteering and participating in events such as the IUPUI Regatta, Weekend U, IUPUI Holiday Night, IUPUI Hall of Fame, School of Science Alumni Association events such as Science on Tap, and the IUPUI Leadership Dinner. He has served as a judge for IUPUI's Top 100 Outstanding Students and has devoted his time to science recruitment events participating in career panels for prospective students.
"I am really enthused about the Science on Tap program we started a few years ago," Brizendine said. "Getting to learn a little bit about a faculty member's current research, meeting fellow alumni, faculty, and current students in a relaxed, casual environment is a great way to a build those relationships."
Brizendine uses his School of Science master's degree as a biostatistician in Indianapolis, providing consulting services to biomedical researchers.
