2018 Brain Bee winners announced

Thursday, December 13, 2018

INDIANAPOLIS - More than 20 high school students competed at the 2018 Brain Bee at IUPUI held on Saturday, December 8. Carmel High School junior Brian Zhang finished in first place, earning a School of Science scholarship and spot in the national competition.

The International Brain Bee aims to motivate high school students to learn about the brain and inspire the pursuit of careers in neuroscience research. The IUPUI Departments of Psychology and Biology sponsor the local Brain Bee as part of the School of Science's commitment to advancing scientific minds and fostering community interest in the sciences.

A twist on a traditional spelling bee, the Brain Bee requires competitors to answer questions about the brain and nervous system until only one student, the champion, remains.

Each of the top three competitors received a Dean of Science Scholarship, renewable for four years for degree programs in the School of Science. In addition to a scholarship, Zhang-as winner of the Brain Bee at IUPUI-received an expense-paid trip (flight and hotel) plus one parent to attend the National Brain Bee competition.
