Biotechnology uses living organisms to help make products. The biotechnology industry has been going through some transformative changes that mandate more sophisticated workforce training at many levels. To help place central Indiana at the forefront in the preparation of a suitable workforce for existing industry, IU Indianapolis has developed this bachelor’s degree level training program. We also strive to provide a flexible training program that may be attractive to biotechnology industries considering a move to Indiana.
This program has been developed in collaboration with the several local biotechnology industries to ensure relevance and appropriateness of the education-training program content.
The program includes an extensive industrial internship along with the basic and applied courses in biotechnology. Students graduate having met industrial objectives for preparation for positions in the biotechnology industry.
The curriculum of the bachelor’s degree also allows flexibility within the major and with electives to meet basic requirements for application to most graduate and professional programs. Students are also encouraged to participate in research.
