To remain in good standing and earn acceptance to the IU School of Medicine, all B/MD applicants must meet, and continue to meet, all requirements of this academically rigorous program.
The requirements are for both pathways - traditional and accelerated.
Grade Point Average (GPA)
Earn an overall and BCPM (biology, chemistry, physics, and math) minimum GPA, as calculated by the American Medical College Application Service (AMCAS), as show in the table below.

School of Medicine prerequisite coursework
Complete the prerequisite coursework required by IU School of Medicine.
- One year each of general and organic chemistry, physics, and biology, each with lab
- One semester of biochemistry
- One semester each of behavioral sciences and social sciences
Science prerequisite coursework
All science prerequisite coursework for admission to medical school must be completed at IU Indianapolis.
Interview
Complete an interview with the IU School of Medicine MD admissions committee at the end of the first year.
Professional behavior
Engage in professional behavior at all times. Any institutional or legal sanction may result in dismissal from the B/MD Pathway to Medicine program.
Clinical service, MCAT and AMCAS
By September 1 of the year prior to beginning the MD curriculum, students must also:
- Fulfill 40 hours of approved volunteer clinical service (medical service learning and physician shadowing)
- Take the MCAT with a minimum total score of 512, with no individual sub-score below 125
- Submit the AMCAS application to IU School of Medicine
